The gala event welcomed three hundred leading members of various communities across Canada at the Grand Victorian Convention Centre in Mississauga to mark the 66th anniversary of India’s independence and to honor the democratic principles that bind Canada with its south-Asian cousin.

Air Canada Opens Global Operations Centre in Brampton, Ontario

Air Canada on August 20 announced the opening of a new state-of-the-art global Operations Centre (OC) in Brampton, Ontario which is expected to significantly improve its operational capabilities and efficiencies.  The new facility is the result of a two-year, $60-million project and will serve as the central control for the airline's operations, with 400 employees overseeing, on a 24/7 basis, nearly 600 Air Canada flights each day.

ICCC Interactive Session with Minister Chris Alexander

Hon. Chris Alexander, Canada’s new minister for Citizenship and Immigration emphasized that when dealing with immigration, the government understands that change is a constant. The Minister was addressing members of the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce at an interactive session in Toronto.

Naval Bajaj, President, ICCC welcomed the minister and introduced him to the members of the chamber.  He said that the ICCC is a 36 year old business organization with twin objectives of fostering bilateral trade between Canada and India, and creating business and professional opportunities for the Indian Diaspora in Canada.

The 2013 Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) plenary meeting in Prague, from June 13-14, assumed significance in the context of the ongoing crises relating to Iran and North Korea as well the legitimacy crisis faced by the group because of the Chinese proliferation behaviour. Equally important challenges before the NSG have been the advancement in global nuclear technology as well as the expansion of its membership whereby its goals and objectives are promoted not compromised.

It was the forty-ninth anniversary of the Independence Day when H.D. Deve Gowda, the then Prime Minster, addressed the Indians from the Red Fort in Hindi, India’s national language. There was an unusual aspect about the Independence Day speech he delivered – H.D. Deve Gowda delivered his speech in a language he didn’t know, asserting that you can rule India without knowing its ‘national language’. And only in India is it possible to have a language as a national language that more than half of its people cannot speak and a good number of people cannot understand.
