Popular media personality, Renu Mehta, has been honoured with the Woman Hero award for Entrepreneur category at the 3rd Annual Celebrating Womanhood Gala this year.
The event, presented by the Indo-Canadian Arts and Culture Initiative (ICACI), provides a global platform for the recognition of women, and inspires many others to bring their latent talents to the fore and achieve the kind of excellence they themselves didn’t believe they were capable of.
A journalist by profession, Mehta currently owns and runs her own PR firm Imagebuilderz that works to enhance media reach and public appeal of several campaigns and organizations including TD Bank, League of Canadian Poets, Canada India Foundation and the Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce.
“I am truly honoured to receive this award by ICACI”, said Mehta at Sagan Banquet Hall in Mississauga. “I believe one has the ability to achieve your dream at any age. Your achievements are a sole result of your will and determination to succeed and make a difference in the lives of others.”
The annual event in March this year recognized and celebrated the achievements of several South Asian Women in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in categories including Arts and Culture, Diversity, Media, Performing Arts and Community Leadership.
Mehta, well known in Toronto media, business and social circles has also been awarded the Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her volunteerism and many years of work in the community. She was featured as one of the 20 Journeys that showcased the story of immigrants who have contributed to the vibrancy of the Toronto Region. Funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada and commissioned by the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC) and exhibited in several cities including Toronto, Brampton, Markham and Mississauga.
Mehta has worked with several media groups including the CHUM group, presenting Live Traffic for CP24. She has hosted, reported and produced many programs including 26 episodes of a Science Show for OMNI Television, 13 Environment shows, as well as researched and reported for specialty shows including 300 years of Sikh History. She has also held the position of Consulting Editor for The Indian Express and Divya Bhaskar (North American edition) for many years.
“It is an honour to be presenting this award to someone like Renu Mehta. The kind of work she has done and is doing within the community is incomparable and we hope that many more will take inspiration from Renu (Mehta) and follow her footsteps,” says Shruti Ganapathy and Mokshi Virk, Directors of ICACI.
