Province Creating Jobs, Building A Strong Economy By Investing In Key Infrastructure

Ontario is making progress to expand Highway 427, which will create jobs and support economic growth and development.

The province has released a request for proposals to three shortlisted bidders to extend Highway 427 by 6.6 kilometres (km) from Highway 7 to Major Mackenzie Drive. The highway will also be widened for about 4 km south of Albion Road to Highway 7. Construction is expected to begin in 2017 and the road will be open to traffic in 2020.

Kirpan Accommodation at Canadian NHL Arenas

The World Sikh Organization of Canada has worked with NHL hockey arenas across Canada to implement kirpan accommodation procedures for Sikh guests. 

Beginning in the 2015-16 NHL season, arenas were instructed to introduce airport-style security screening of guests, including walk-through metal detectors.  The WSO began working with arenas across Canada on creating a suitable accommodation for Sikh guests that would balance security with freedom of religion and the Sikhs' obligation to wear the kirpan.

The event, which took place on March 19 at the Grand Taj Banquet Hall in Mississauga was attended by over 200 guests from all walks of life. Prominent names included MPs Sonia Sidhu and Ramesh Sangha and MPP Harinder Malhi.

Powerhouses of the last, long growth cycle, and resilient in the post- recession period, the BRICS have one by one lost their edge. Russia is sanctions-smothered. Brazil is infrastructure-incapacitated, among other issues. It’s all about commodities in South Africa.  China is battling bubbles inflated by aggressive stimulus. And then there’s India. Sure, growth slowed here as it did everywhere else. But among these peers it finds itself alone, with growth reestablished and clearly ahead of the pack. What’s going on?

Bharat Mata Ki Jai and hurling 'Anti Nationalism' for Dissent

The national scene is being dominated by the current ‘you must chant Barat Mata ki jai’ to prove your nationalism. This was preceded by the ‘Anti national' abuse being hurled on all those showing dissent with the present regime. These two major issues have been propped up in the recent times and these are trying to undermine the core issue of the state’s onslaught on University autonomy. They air aimed to undermine the issues where the state is trying to displace the democratic ethos and from failure to keep the pre-election promises. This is an attempt to prop up a new emotive issue to add to the array of emotive issues already manufactured by the communal forces.
