Defence Minister Sajjan Apologizes to Former Comrades

By Lee Berthiaume, The Canadian Press

Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan offered a full apology to his former comrades-in-arms on Saturday, after claiming to have been the "architect" of Canada's largest battle in Afghanistan.

The mea culpa, posted to Facebook, followed what some had seen as a half-hearted apology by Sajjan on Friday for comments he made in a speech earlier (in April) to a think tank in India.

"On my first deployment to Kandahar in 2006, I was kind of thrown in an unforeseen situation and became the architect of an operation called Operation Medusa, where we removed about 1,500 fighters, Taliban fighters, off the battlefield," Sajjan said during his speech in Delhi on April 18.

Chief Minister has termed the Defence Minister a ‘Khalistan sympathiser’

By Suhasini Haidar, Vikas Vasudeva

Terming Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s remarks against its Defence Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan both “disappointing and inaccurate”, Canada on Thursday rejected the allegation that Mr. Sajjan and three cabinet colleagues were supporters of Sikh separatist groups, or “Khalistanis”.

“We regret that the Chief Minister of Punjab is unavailable to meet with Canada's Minister of Defence. The comments regarding Canada’s Ministers are both disappointing and inaccurate,” the Canadian High Commission in Delhi said in a statement about Captain Amarinder’s comments that have set off a political and diplomatic storm in India ahead of Mr. Sajjan’s visit from April 17-23.

“A Matter of Geography,” published by Mosaic Press elegantly explores the ever-changing human relationships within the cosmic framework,” as quoted by Toronto author Sylvia Fraser. This quote aptly describes Jasmine D’Costa’s new book, which was recently launched to a sold out crowd at the Heliconian Club, in Toronto.

Jasmine has indicated that the beginning of her novel opens in the early 1990’s in the heart of Bombay where young Peter and Anna are neighbours residing with their families.  They live in the Billimoria Building, ensconced in the Catholic ghetto. When Hindus destroy a mosque in the distant Indian state of Ayodhya, riots explode in Bombay, the worst the city has witnessed.

Staying Healthy Through Foot Reflexology

The feet are a mirror of the whole body. Thousands of nerve endings connected to every organ, gland and part of the body are found in the feet. These nerve endings are reflex points.

Manisha Melwani has had a passion for foot reflexology for nearly thirty years and runs a successful Foot Reflexology training practice in Toronto.  She asked us to think of a reflex point as a doorbell button. When we push the button, an electrical signal passes through a wire that causes the doorbell to sound. Similarly, when we press the reflex points on the feet, the nerves carry the signals to the corresponding parts of the body, activating their own healing mechanisms. The body has infinite intelligence and is constantly working to maintain harmony within individual organs and glands, and their interrelationships with each other.

The Conspiracy That Demolished the Babri Mosque

By Ram Puniyani *

The demolition of the Babri masjid on December 6, 1992 was the biggest attack on the Indian Constitution and the values of peace and amity.

In the 1980s the Ram temple issue was taken over by the Bharatiya Janata Party from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, another Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh progeny. L.K.Advani, the BJP president then, initiated many programs with his Rath Yatra across India being a major mobilisation effort. These programs got a bigger response from a section of society after the implementation of the Mandal Commission in 1990, after which what was dubbed Kamandal politics (politics in name of religion) got sharper teeth.

India’s Emotional Pursuit of NSG

By Anaya Shahid *

When the U.S. granted Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) waiver to India in 2008, China withdrew its concerns under extraordinary pressure from the U.S. and agreed on the exception for India to get the membership. Recently, India’s membership was up for deliberation last year at the NSG’s plenary meeting and China had made its position clear.

China alongside different nations upheld the principled position that if India is allowed to participate without signing the Non-proliferation treaty (NPT), it will set a terrible point of reference in future. The countries that are opposing India’s submission comprised China, Russia, Brazil, Austria, New Zealand, Ireland and Turkey. However, the motivation behind why India has scored a major win in accumulating support for its NSG membership from a few nations is on account of Washington, which has begun to regard New Delhi as a future strategic Partner to contain China.

For RSS/BJP Charity Does Not Begin At Home

By Shamsul Islam

Gujarat Assembly on March 31, 2017 passed a new law on cow-slaughter. Anybody involved in this would be awarded life sentence. Next day, in order to outdo Vijay Rupani, CM of Gujarat, the CM of Chattisgarh, Raman Singh announced that anybody found doing it would be hanged. These two chief ministers, if they are serious in revering mother cow, must ask RSS/BJP to begin this process in Goa, Manipur and Arunachal where despite RSS/BJP governments beef is officially available. The rulers there should be tried hanged or imprisoned for life.
